Echocardiography
In total there were 14,049 studies.  There were 12,791 transthoracic studies, 9875 at St Thomas’ and  2916 on the Guy’s site.   Of the total, 8812 (62%) were outpatient transthoracic studiesThere were 478 (3.4%) transoesophageal studies (compared with 372 last year), and 780 (5.5%) stress studies (compared with 567 last year). There were 140 bubble studies compared with 134 last year.
There were 1023 (7%) open access GP studies of which 170 were performed at the Gracefield Gardens outreach clinic in Streatham.   Of the total, 164 lived outside Lambeth and Southwark, mainly in Lewisham and Wandsworth.  However 5% were referred from a wide range of practices in Bromley, Croydon, Dartford, Tower Hamlets, Haringey, Enfield, Highbury, Greenwich, Merton and Sevenoaks.
Cardiac surgery
There were 16,191 12-lead electrocardiograms performed, 10,008 at St Thomas’ and 6183 at Guy’s.  In addition there were 979 electrocardiograms at Gracefield Gardens.  Of the 1834 exercise tests, 337 (18%) were open access compared with 23% last year.
Electrocardiography
We performed 555 valve operations during 2010 out of a total 1177 cases.  Of these, 294 were isolated single valves (282 in 2009), and 196 were single valves with CABG. 
There were 401 operations involving the aortic valve: 221 isolated aortic valve replacements; 156 with CABG; and 24 with other surgery (root replacement, mitral repair or multiple valve replacement). 
The aortic valve replacements were 85% biological. 

There were 114 isolated mitral valve procedures of which 64 (56%) were repairs.  There were 40 mitral procedures that involved CABG. 

One-Stop Valve Clinic
Numbers seen at the one-stop valve clinic have risen from 309 (2008) to 494 (2009) to 720 in 2010.  There were 257 new referrals in 2010 compared to 198 in 2009.  Forty required either conventional surgery (n=34) or a transcatheter procedure (n=6).   A number of centres have visited with a view to setting up similar clinics.
